Initially I couldn’t tell exactly what it was, there was some slight movement which was detectable and a visible eye. I decided to step out on the back porch for a closer look which is when I spotted the snake in the grass, litterly!

It appears to be a young adult black snake. It was the mottled brown and black transitional color the snake assumes as it changes from it’s standard juvenile patterning to it’s adult black color. It was about 18 to 24 inches. As soon as the snake saw me it took off under the . Boy could it move! It made an especially interesting S patter as it slithered through the grass.
